Fraser Valley HOME Learning EXPO - Children's Activities

All children are welcome to attend the Expo at no charge, when accompanied by an adult. A wide offering of FREE CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES including music lessons, martial arts, chef's classes, dance classes, visual arts will be running throughout the day. Participation in each of the children's activities does not require pre-registration ~ activity providers or presenters will make every attempt to accommodate all children who are interested in taking part in the activity.

Parents please note that supervision of your children at the Expo is your responsibility at all times. If you cannot be with your small children, we encourage you to explore the childminding services available onsite ~ fees will apply. As well, keep in mind that the Abbotsford Recreation Centre houses an Olympic sized swimming pool and a beautiful fitness facility. Other members of your family may be interested in working out or grabbing a swim while you’re at the Expo!

ACTIVITIES RUNNING ALL DAY (NO SCHEDULE):

CREATIVE EDGE will be on site all day to host a variety of activities for kids of all ages ! Kids can experience music, dance and visual arts at their leisure by visiting the Creative Edge tent!

LET'S TALK SCIENCE & GENOME BC will be on site with engaging science-based activities for kids!

ABBOTSFORD POLICE will have activities and hand-outs available for kids. Focus will be on keeping safe in our community.

SCIENCE WORLD
returns to the Expo this year offering a full day of activities for families:

Building Structures from Newspapers ~ This very popular hands-on activity will run all day long, inviting kids and parents to study and build huge structures from recycled newspapers!

Make & Take Science Project ~ Kids can work with the Science World volunteers to conduct a science experiment project, then take it home!

CHILDREN'S EXPLORATION STAGE - SCHEDULE

10:00 - 10:30    Soccerkidz

Come on out for a fun-filled session of soccer skills and challenges! Test out your shooting and passing abilities through exciting drills and scrimmage games

11:00 - 12:00     Abbotsford Children's Theatre

Freddy Latham from the ACT will be on site to conduct a theatre workshop for kids

12:00 pm          Wonder of DNA

Visit the Genome BC booth where they will show participants how to extract DNA from regular fruit (e.g. kiwis) using household ingredients! Plus, learn to create models of the DNA helix with candy!

1:00 - 1:30        Kids' Bootcamp

Come out and join us for a fun and motivating workout! Get ready for the challenge, the energy, and the experience. Running, jumping, squatting, leaping, and skipping; you’ll get to try it all! It’s time to be active, to have fun, and to get fit!

1:30 - 2:00         Beginner Karate

Join us for this fun filled introduction to traditional karate! Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of balance and skill development with our highly trained karate instructor.

2:00 - 3:00       Cheffing with Joyce

Experience what it's like to be a chef! Kids will put together a light snack with Joyce of Summit Learning Centre (no hot surfaces or cooking involved).

3:30 - 4:00        Teen Dance Fit Cardio

Love to dance?? Then this class is for you. Come out and increase your cardio while dancing to a variety of music. Your instructor will guide through basic to advanced steps while experiencing a fun and motivating workout!
