The 2009 Fraser Valley Home Learning Expo will take place from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 at the new Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Road, Abbotsford, BC. Please note that this is NOT the long weekend in May. Last year’s Expo was such a great success that we have moved the Expo to this brand new state-of-the-art facility.

David J. Smith is a classroom teacher with over 25 years' experience, and the author of several books. In 1992, he won the U.S. Department of Education's "A+ For Breaking The Mold" Award for "Mapping the World By Heart", a middle-school geography curriculum; "If The World Were A Village" was published in March, 2002, and has since been published in 17 languages, and won the H.C.Andersen Prize, the International Reading Association's Children's Book Award, and was named a Smithsonian "Notable Book of the Year".

For his keynote address from 8:30 am to 10:00 am, David will share with you, strategies on teaching geography across the curriculum, using his award winning books. Expo organizers are pleased to offer David’s keynote address free of charge. Space will be limited, so we encourage you to register early ~ thank you!

A series of 12 parent workshops will be offered throughout the day. Each parent admission includes access to three (3) parent workshops. Please note that prior registration is required in order to attend the workshops. We encourage you to register early so that you can secure a seat in the workshops that most interest you. All children are welcome to attend the Expo at no charge, when accompanied by an adult. We encourage your kids to visit the Children’s Exploration Centre as there will be a wide offering of FREE CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES where children can explore music lessons, martial arts, fencing lessons, dance classes, visual arts and much more!
